Some weeks ago, I received an email from Etsy which started like this: “we’re interested in highlighting your work in our Featured Shop series: “ At first sight I was sure that it was the usual spam trying once again to sell me something. Then I read the whole message (two times!) and I realized that Etsy really wanted to write a post about us on their blog! Honestly, when I started InconnuLAB I was sure that Etsy would feature us one day. But I was really surprised that this day came so fast!
If you are a seller on Etsy this situation is considered the best thing that can happen to you. Obviously, because it draws thousands of visitors to your shop, who will probably buy something from you. When I started to sell on Etsy I read tons of articles to discover the secret of How to be featured on Etsy Blog (and other blogs). It was completely useless… Slowly, I understood that there was not a magic tag or a special e-mail that could call the Etsy admins’ attention to InconnuLAB. The secret is hard work and to be constantly improving your shop! Yeah, I know that it is a bit dissapointing, but that’s it.
One of the best things on Etsy is that it’s not only a marketplace, but a community of crafters, makers and designers. If you are lucky like me, you can find a team which consists of similar sellers like you. There, probably, you can meet sellers who have much more experience than you, therefore you can ask them ways to improve your shop. In my favorite Etsy team (Atelier10), which consists of potential and expert Etsy sellers, I met some people who could really help me to achieve this result. Many had already got their shop featured on The Etsy Blog, like Francesca di MosMea. Francesca was kind enough to share with me her own experience and tips on how to get featured.
”I never thought I could be a Featured Seller on Etsy one day, simply beause the number of sellers on Etsy is enormous and to get yourself noticed seemed impossible. For me it was a real surprise! I think its essential to really focus on your shop and take care of its every aspect, but also to take advantage the visibility and the opportunities given to you through the Etsy Community for your products. Etsy has a ‘social’ aspect to it and being part of it is extremely important. Etsy is not like Ebay or Amazon where you can create your shop, insert your products and wait until someone buys them. Understanding this and putting this mentality into practice everyday is what I think contributed to the fact that I was noticed for my work. Of course, you need to be very lucky as well, and that’s something you can’t control, but working on the presentation of your shop together with an active presence in the community will grow the probability of you to be noticed and featured. ”
So guys, what you have to do to be featured on Etsy Blog is:
1, improve your shop (take nice photos, write good tags, translate your descriptions, etc…),
2, be social, as Francesca says being present in the community will grow the probability to get noticed.
3, take care of your customers ♥
That’s easy, right? ;)
