We all find ourselves sometimes complaining of not having enough time in our lives to learn something new, socialize, exercise or be more productive in our jobs. However, have you ever thought about all this time you spend while going to work or back home? Commuting takes a considerable amount of time in our lives and it’s a time that we usually spend scrolling down our friend’s status updates on Facebook or just listening to some music. But if time well spent is what you need in your life, then maximizing your daily commute is something you must try. Here are five ways in which you can upgrade your boring ‘going to work’ time in the morning, into a self- enhancing experience!
- Listen to podcasts, audio-books or webinars.
Learn something new everyday by listening to inspirational and informative podcasts ( loads are available for free download ) or listen that book that you always wanted to read but never had the time. Driving to work will never be the same!
- Network and socialize.
If you are not driving, use your time to text your friends and schedule meet-ups or even try carpooling with colleagues that live nearby to get to know everyone better. If your work schedule is tight you can use your commute to catch up on voicemails or hold conference calls to get everything done before you reach the office.
- Brainstorm or keep a journal.
If you are using bus or train for your daily commute, consider bringing your favorite notebook with you and let the creative juices flow! Write down ideas, notes or plans to conquer the world and maybe you will think your next big step while waiting for the next train.
- Bicycle or walk to work.
Hit two birds with one stone by exercising on your way to work. Biking is a great solution for keeping both healthy and fit and getting to work on time. If you are not the biking type or your city is not bike- friendly, consider getting off a few stops before and walking the rest of the way.
- Meditate or practice mindfulness.
If a moment of calm is all you need download one of the free meditation apps available and relax before or after work. Practicing mindfulness might help you become more productive and feel calmer during work!
