Now it’s the chance! Just outside the doorway of the New Year, these days are perfect for setting new goals, creating bucket lists with all the things we would like to accomplice next year and planning ahead. But it’s also the perfect time to take some time and look around in our space and see how it has changed the past year. I hate to say it but mine has become much more cluttered with things I am reluctant to throw away, business cards, store catalogs, empty boxes, worn out gym clothes and even gift wrappings from Christmas presents. I knew it was time for a Minimalist House Cleanse.
Decluttering your house can be very hard, sometimes in an emotional level as well, but the results will astonish you. A minimal home can help you focus more, relax better and teaches you how you can live with less without missing anything in your life. Just before the arrival of 2016 is the perfect time to throw away in all those things that you have been collecting in the past, but won’t offer you anything in the future.
Use it or loose it.
Do you really need all those pairs of jeans? Or more importantly, do you actually wear them? Start a small experiment this year. Put your clothes on hangers and put the hangers the opposite way. Every time you use a piece of clothing put it back in your closet the right way. After two months check how many hangers face the opposite way. These are the pieces you never wear, maybe its time to say bye to them!
Reduce the quantities.
Sure. You need bed-sheets, but do you really need all 15 of them? What about 6 mixing bowls ? Keep the newest and best of all those things that just eat up space in your drawers and give everything else away.
Keep your counters clutter free.
Sometimes we use that mixer, juicer, toaster and then we leave it on the counter for ages, until it becomes part of it. But do you actually use it often enough to have to look at it everyday?
Replace, don’t increase.
For everything new you buy, find something old that you never use to throw away. Simple and effective.
Keep going.
Minimalism is a life long process. Try to run a ‘minimalist’ check at your home once every two months or every time you clean or organize your stuff. This will keep your house clean and decluttered in the long run.
