Always fascinated with the traditional Japanese paper-folding art of origami, here in InconnuLab, we have been exploring the ways different designers and artists have been incorporating it in their work. It’s amazing how much inspiration can a single art give to designers, from our origami bags , to origami plant pots and to colorful 3D origami animals, who go beyond using paper for their folds, but experimenting diverse materials as well.
UK- based Another Studio does exactly that. Inspired by the origami folding techniques they created Lignum Fold, hand folded objects for home made of wood. These homeware objects are created by scoring, folding and forming a flat piece of wood, much how origami is done. For some of the pieces of the collection to be made, several days of work are required to achieve the finished product.
The collection includes a Medium Dish, a Small Bowl for jewelry or small miscellaneous bits and a Pencil Pot which lined with Japanese paper inside for extra strength and durability. Finally, the Lampshade, which is handmade to order in Another Studio, requires a great amount of labor and combines wood and a trim of Japanese paper.
We can’t wait to find out more about artists and designers inspired by the origami technique. Who is your favorite?
