Ladies and Gentlemen, we are exactly one week away from Christmas and you can feel it in the air. Gift- shopping for friends and family, organizing countless meet-ups and dinners, making plans for New Years and at the same time trying to enjoy a hot cup of tea at home, sure can feel chaotic. However, I always try to find an hour per day to slowly decorate my home until Christmas and it has been a beautiful and rewarding experience. It’s not only about decorating, but transforming and preparing your space for the new beginning that this holiday brings. I enjoy so much giving a special feeling to the space, new smells, new tastes change not only the room, but also your mood. Here in InconnuLab we collected five of our favorite ways to decorate for Christmas in a minimal way, that is not overwhelming, but that makes the difference!
It’s so easy to decorate your big white wall or empty corner with this idea, which is just perfect if you are living in a small space. Just string up bunches of herbs that can then be hanged from a pole, tree branches or anywhere else you want. Choose herbs with a strong fragrance like rosemary, lavender, thyme and you will have a hanging herb garden in no time that gives out a beautiful smell and adds color and life to your house.
Take out the pages of an old book and handcraft your own origami ornaments. You will have to dedicate some time to make them, but you boil yourself some tea, put some music on to get you going and folding paper can be a great meditative experience, that can help you gather and focus your thoughts. The origami ornaments are simple and elegant and you can find countless tutorials on Youtube on how to make a variety of shapes and forms.
Just fill some brown paper bags with sweeties and goodies and hang them from a string with a fold and some tape or just use some tape to stick them directly on the wall and you will have a advent calendar that can fit in any room.
Use washi tape to create a wall of fragrances, memories, holiday cards and inspiration for Christmas and the New Year. Simple, but beautiful solution to display those Christmas cards you have been receiving, photos of friends and family, festive illustrations or anything else you have in mind. Lovely!
In your next walk to the forest or the nearby park collect some beautiful branches and put them in jars, vases or bottles to create a natural decor that is not invasive. Then you can decorate your branches with festoons, fill the vases with Christmas lights to brighten up your space or even hang your ornaments to create an alternative Christmas tree.
