The first week of February is over and we are beginning to see the first signs of spring around here. The days have become significantly longer and some trees have already started blooming. However, the cold, gloomy days, the fog and the heavy rains, are still here to remind us that it’s still winter. With the prospect of spring and summer just ahead of us, I always find February hard to get by. I can’t wait for the sunny days to come and I miss the warm summer breeze even more.
Winter blues are hard to beat for many people, including me. The lack of sun for days and the cold weather can make us feel tired, less energetic and in a bad mood. But don’t despair, here are some ways to help you brighten up your day this winter.
While at home: Rainy days make us stay at home whether we want it or not. But thinking how great it could have been if it were sunny, just doesn’t help. There are so many things you can do that don’t require you to go outside, but are still creative and social.
- Organize a brunch: Call your fiends at home and have brunch together. Everyone can bring something to eat and drink. Sharing good times with friends can make the dreary days of winter feel a little more light and happy.
- Refresh and organize your space: Remember that cupboard or drawer that you never have time to put in order? A rainy day gives you the perfect chance to de-clutter your home, put everything in its place and enjoy it more.
- Time to DIY: Was it that recipe you always wanted to try out or that plan you had to create your own gallery wall at your living room? It’s now or never!
While outside: Don’t be afraid of the cold, dress well and go out. Even a little bit of sun can brighten up your mood, giving you that vitamin D your body was missing so much lately. Plus, there are so many great things you could do while outside to brighten up your mood.
- Meet a friend: Sharing a coffee or hot chocolate and catching up with a friend is a great reason to step outside in the cold.
- Visit a library, a gallery or a museum: Learn something new and get inspired by a book or an exhibition, while staying in the warmth. Best deal ever.
- Go running or for a walk in the forest: Enjoy the fresh breeze and the fact that your not going to be sweating as much as you would in a hot summer day.
