We are well into Spring right now, having just entered the sweet month of May and nothing seems to be reminding is of Winter anymore, apart from the occasional showers and strong winds. The calm weather brings us well into the spring cleaning mood, a will to put things in order, de-clutter our space and prepare for summer with a fresh mind and space. Cleaning with a broom and mop and making sure everything is sparkling are the first steps to a house that feels like new. But if you are up for a true challenge this Spring, try our Minimalist Spring Cleaning tips for actually de-cluttering your house, getting rid of everything you don’t really need and creating more space for you and your loved ones. Find yourself a big carton box to fill it with everything you don’t need or haven’t been using for ages and take it one room at a time. When you’ve finished you can call your friends around and ask them to take a look at the box and take whatever they like or give it to your local charity shop. Remember, ‘sharing is caring’ !
- Old Magazines: do you really need this huge stack of back issues ? Unless you are actually reading them, throw them away.
- Presents you never really liked: This is especially hard and might feel cruel, but maybe someone else will appreciate those gifts more than you do.
- Clothes that you don’t wear anymore or no longer fit you: See how to create a minimal wardrobe here.
- Empty jars and boxes: You really don’t need cupboards full of them. Recycle them or give them away.
- Old makeup, skincare and beauty products that break you out: Expired makeup is not exactly good for your skin and it’s also quite gross, so just throw it away. Give to your friends any non-expired beauty products that are not suitable for your skin.
- Anything broken, that can’t be fixed or that you can’t be bothered to fix.: Just throw it away, or give it to someone that has the time/skills/ patience to fix it.
