Our love for minimal, handmade jewelry is not something that we have been able to hide so successfully and we never planned to. That’s why, when a friend invited me to like a Page on Facebook, full of gorgeous, geometric creations, I instantly wanted to know more about the people behind the project.
Ajna is an Athens- based collective of creative people, who want to express their creativity and share their passion with the rest of the world. At the moment Ajna consists of three members, Effy, Irene and Nasos. Nasos and Effy have also worked together in another project, called Los Piratas, a brand with mainly handmade clothes and apparel, and they decided that they wanted to experiment with other materials and designs. Then, Irene joined Ajna as a creative person with experience in fashion design. All together they united to satisfy their artistic needs and produce handmade jewels that people would love to wear.
All of Ajnas creations are handmade, but that’s not the only thing that makes them unique. Anja’s team always wanted their inner expression to turn into something tangible. ”Through our jewels we try to approach the ethnic element, with a minimal perspective and all that in conjunction with geometrical forms. And of course our jewels are made with love and they have great vibes :) ” says the team.
The main tank where Ajna’s team draws insipartion from, is their trips around the world. ”Few years ago we travelled to Bali which is a spiritual place. We wanted to transfer this feeling to our creations.” Apart from travelling, the materials themselves inspire and help them make a new creation, through mixing and matching them together. The people who wear Anja’s creations are the ones who can appreciate not only the handmade labor, but also the idea behind the creation.
But, Effy, Irene and Nasos are not alone in this project. Apart from this core team, there are people that help them with the various tasks that shape Ajna. They have a team of photographers ( Nefeli Papaioannou, Kostas Lefakis and Alekos Sal), who take all the great photos you see in their page and help them present their creations in the best way possible. Their elegant logo was designed by Marianna Vu, but the team owes their knowledge of jewelry crafting and was given great support by their teachers from Syn Apeiro.
What does the future hold for Ajna? The team wants to expand its knowledge on new techniques of our jewelry making. They would also like to be a part of bazaars and eventually open their own Etsy shop. They would also like to have a physical store, but that idea still belongs to the distant future. For now, we just want to see more of their creations and we can’t wait to see them on Etsy together with us!
