The fact that we love books, here in InconnuLab, is not a secret. From non-fiction for creatives to travel books for the travelling souls, we have been featuring our favorite reads and we are planning to go on. However, I have to admit, even if it breaks my heart, that I can count the books I was able to read last year on one hand. At some point I just broke the habit of reading a few pages before I went to sleep or on a lazy Sunday and I find myself scrolling though my phone more often than I’d like. With the new year I made a promise to read more and create more time and possibilities for myself to think of reading not as an indulgence, but as part of my daily routine. If, like me, you are busy focusing on your career or studies and you feel that you don’t have the time to read as much as you would actually like, read on. Here are some ways to start reading more this year!
Take a book with you everywhere you go.
Make your book an essential part of your bag. Read on the train while going to work, read on your lunch break, read while waiting for the bus to come. Replace your phone- scrolling habit, with the pages of your favorite paperback, or, if you prefer a more lightweight option, read from your Kindle or tablet.
Put your phone on airplane mode.
Set a time every night to put your phone on airplane mode or completely turn it off. This way you will get no more pointless notifications, that get your eyes back on your phone for no reason, while you are in bed. Relax, sip on the hot beverage of your choice and just read without disruptions.
Join a book club…
Join your local book club or one of the many online ones if you are too busy. You can even collect a small group of friends and start reading the same book together. It will keep you challenged to read more and it will give you an excellent reason to meet up for a coffee! Who doesn’t love discussing what they have been reading??
… or join a book website.
Websites like Goodreads, are great for those who are indecisive and take too much time deciding what their next read should be. There you can join groups and forums, get inspired by book lists of every genre and maybe discover your new favorite author.
Get a library card.
You don’t have to spend all of your money in books. If you are on a budget but you love reading, you can join your local library and read as much as you like without thinking of the cost.
