Working from ones home might sound easy; you are in the comfort of your own house, you work while wearing your pajamas and by the end of the day, you work better. However, this is not entirely true. At home there are tones of distractions, from feeding the cat, to ending up reading a magazine or watching Youtube videos, while you were supposed to be working. Also, it is very hard to get into that ‘working mood’, it is way easier just spending half day procrastinating. If you are working from home it is crucial to create the right work environment to keep that work flow going and increase your productivity. Here are five tips to hep you achieve exactly that !
Prepare your liquids
Before you start working make sure you have something to drink around you and provide yourself with more during the day. You can start with coffee or tea, replace your snack with a smoothie and always keep a water bottle near you. Being hydrated will help you concentrate and refresh your mind and body.
Use a timer
It helps me a lot. Setting a timer is the easiest and most effective way for me to get work done. You can divide the time as you like and as it suits your schedule. I like doing a solid hour of work, then have a small break and then work for another half an hour and then repeat. You can use a kitchen timer or opt for a smartphone app like ClearFocus or Pomodoro Timer, dividing your work in slots helps you not only do more in less time, but making sure you will have regular breaks.
Own your space
Do whatever you need, to make yourself feel comfortable and confident in your work place. Find a luminous spot to set your desk, maybe by the window, and invest in a good desk lamp and chair. Decorate the walls, place some plants and surround yourself with things that motivate you and make you feel good.
Create the perfect atmosphere
Some people need music, others perfumed candles and some both. Having the privilege to work from home, you can create the exact atmosphere you need to work better.
Eliminate distractions
Put your phone in another room or in airplane mode until your next break. It can be a major distraction and it will interrupt your work flow with every single notification, so try to keep it as much out of sight, as possible. If you live with others invest in a cute but firm ‘ do not disturb’ sign to pass the message in the nicest possible way.
