I think I have a love and hate relationship with Winter. On the one hand side, I can’t stand the cold, the fact that I am almost always sick and even if I like cozy clothing, the ‘onion method’ is not the most comfortable way to dress myself. However, Winter is a time of the year that many wonderful things happen. It’s the festive season, that I love (as you might have noticed from the previous posts), time to spend with family and friends without always being in a hurry and making the house as cozier as possible. I this post I will share with you five things that are on my bucket list for this Winter and that bring a smile on my face, even in the cold :)
Decorate and make this season special.
Taking my time to decorate the house is one of my favorite things to do early in the winter. Putting some candles around or updating your sofa with a throw to cozy it up, you know, for the movie nights, are some of the first steps. You can change your home’s scent into a more festive aroma with one of our Stove Simmer Recipes and when it comes to the Christmas Tree think about going minimal this year !
Meet your friends and spend time with your family.
This time of the year is to be spent with your loved ones. During the holidays I have finally the time to meet my friends and family and pass some quality time with them without the pressure of working or being infinitely tired. I love playing board games, drinking wine, sharing nice food and taking my time with my favorite people. I just need to be careful not to over-fill my schedule and dedicate some time to myself as well!
Take some time to reflect and treat yourself.
Taking some time for yourself is very important during this period. Many things can change with the change of season, year and month, entering from December to January. Create some space in your day to reflect on what you liked and made you happy in the past year and what made you sad or worried. Keep and cherish your beautiful memories and see how you can improve things next year based on those sad moments. Make a great hot chocolate (or your favorite beverage) to yourself and maybe do a homemade spa treatment ( millions of ideas on the web) to indulge your body as well.
Read a new book or books and discover a new magazine.
Books, books, books I just love them, their covers, their smell and content as well. Truth is that every day is very hard to read more than a couple of pages, as I am exhausted by the time I get to bed and I have the chance to read a few lines. But during the holiday is the perfect time to just let my mind travel and be taken away by a book. If you are a magazine lover don’t forget to take a look on our list of the coolest, indie magazines around for creative people.
Forget about the cold and take a walk.
This one is definitely the hardest for me. When I think of the cold wind, the low temperature, the eventual humidity, all I want to do is stay on my sofa with woolen socks, a DVD, a cozy throw and my cat. But I would be missing so much if I stayed in! The decorated shops, the lights on the streets, the smell and taste of mulled wine in the street market and of course, the winter atmosphere on the mountain, the fresh breeze and the quiet sleeping nature. Who can resist to these experiences?
